Omen Longboards Carbon Fiber Matrix

Perfection was the goal and nothing was overlooked.

Omen has spent months designing, engineering, and prototyping the Carbon Matrix. After spending countless hours on the design process, several prototypes were created and in need of testing. Once feedback was received, slight changes were made to the design and the process to ensure the highest quality possible. With all the feedback from the community, OMEN was able to create their latest design, and once again it was time for more tests.

OMEN received nothing but good news from the local riders testing the final prototype. With local longboarders stoked on the Carbon Matrix, the final thing to do was stress-test the board and figure out exactly how strong it was. The stress-tests involved bending the Carbon Matrix in various ways and figuring out exactly how much pressure it takes to break. The Carbon Matrix can handle just about anything and is extremely durable. During the stress-tests the Carbon Matrix was able to withstand over 800 lbs of pressure and bent over 6 inches before any signs of breakage. Overall, the Omen Carbon Matrix is a top of the line carbon foam-core longboard that can handle its fair share of abuse.

CONSTRUCTION

The OMEN Carbon Matrix was designed to be light and stiff for downhill while simultaneously being strong and sturdy enough to take on the abuse of freeriding. The Carbon Matrix is made of nothing but a perfect blend of foam, uni-directional carbon, plain-weave carbon and texalium. The all-composite construction makes the board incredibly light and stiff. Less weight also means that it takes less effort to throw the board around while sliding; making slides easier and more controllable. The increased stiffness allows the OMEN Carbon Matrix to be extremely responsive and hold less momentum through corners, ensuring that you hit corners with maximum speed and agility. Not only is the OMEN Carbon Matrix light and stiff, but it’s incredibly strong and sturdy.

Carbon-foamcores can be fragile if not constructed properly. That’s why OMEN put all of their efforts towards creating an extremely strong and sturdy board. We added a bunch of special features to improve the board, and made sure that our carbon and foam were nothing but the best. Crowbars were added to increase the strength and sturdiness of the neck of the board. And Love Handles were added to increase the overall stiffness, strength, and sturdiness. If that isn’t enough, the nose and tail were designed to fit the Bombsquad Hellcat Noseguard; a metal curb-proof noseguard. The Carbon Matrix is tough enough to handle anything in its path!

LOWERED RIDE HEIGHT

The 0.75” drop combined with the 0.25” drop from the underflush mountings will significantly lower the profile of the deck. This makes the deck even more stable for downhill and easier to kick out while freeriding and doing standup slides. The lowered profile also really helps to glue your feet down to your board, giving you the ultimate traction while riding. When it comes to downhill and freeride there is nothing like the Omen Carbon Matrix.

WHY BUY A FULL-COMPOSITE BOARD? WHY NOT WOOD?

The all-composite construction is beneficial because it allowed OMEN to achieve structural qualities that are not possible with wood. It’s very difficult to add stiffness to a wood board without adding another ply and thus increasing the weight. This is where full-composite boards come into play, they can be both light weight and extremely stiff. OMEN used the all-composite construction to make the lightest board possible with the maximum amount of stiffness. The full-composite construction not only helped with weight and stiffness, but it also really helped with creating some of the crazy contours of the Carbon Matrix.

Since we aren't dealing with wood we were able to make contours in the board that would otherwise be entirely impossible. For example, in wood drop-decks you have to end the concave where the drop begins due to the inability to bend wood in two directions at the same time. With the carbon-foamcore construction we were able to make the concave wrap all the way around the deck so that it never stops, even when the drop occurs. The Omen Matrix’s deep “Devil cave” (.666”) concave is 100% continuous throughout the entire standing platform with an ergonomic flat spot in the center of the concave. All of this gives the OMEN Matrix deep-dish foot pockets at the drops that really hold your toes and heals in place, giving you maximum leverage with your feet while.

The Crowbars allow for maximum structural integrity using lower amounts of material. Drop-decks have a notorious weak-spot in the neck of the board where the standing platform meets the drop. To compensate for this weak spot, OMEN added the Crowbars to the neck of the deck. These create two very stiff beams for force to be distributed through. This is an alternative to adding more material; it keeps the deck light while exponentially adding strength and stiffness. Thanks to the Crow Bars, multiple stress-tests show that the neck is actually the strongest part of the entire board.

The Love Handles line the outer edge of the deck and make the OMEN Matrix even more ergonomic and freeride friendly. The Love Handles serve several purposes; they provide excellent grip, strengthen the board, and add overall stiffness. Carbon Fiber is slippery and everyone knows it, the Love Handles will give you something to grab onto. Whether you are just picking your board up, grabbing rail through a turn, or doing early grabs the Love Handles will ensure your hands won’t slip. The Love Handles were also a way to strengthen the board and increase stiffness while using fewer materials, keeping the deck nice and lightweight.
